A two-part 1020 Coach Trip to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) Museum at RAF Lyneham and the Atwell-Wilson Motor Museum at Calne.
Those who had previously booked for the event have already been contacted – those who paid by cheque will need to pay again as these cheques have now expired. There are plenty of spaces on the 53 seat coach for those who wish to take part this time – and there should be room for friends or family members to come along as well.
The coach will be leaving Hamworthy Sports Club at 9am prompt and it should take just under two hours to reach the REME Museum.
Opened in 2019, the museum provides an interactive visitor experience where you can learn about the history of REME and some of its leafing figures.
The displays include numerous all-terrain armoured vehicles (including a helicopter), an armourer’s hall, technical trades, uniforms and the role the corps played in re-starting the Volkswagen car company.
Participants will have three hours at the museum (there is a restaurant in the former officers mess which will be serving lunches and snacks) before the coach departs at 2pm for the 15 minute ride to the Atwell Wilson Museum.
The collection was started by the late Richard and Hasell Atwell with the acquisition of a 1936 Buick Albermarle which is still in the museum. The main hall of the museum was completed in 1989 and then expanded in 2003.
Since 1997 it has been run as a charity and today it houses over 100 cars (including several MGs) and motorcycles as well as a 1930s style garage and numerous items of automobillia.
The museum has recently enlarged its catering facilities and will be serving tea and cakes before we depart at 4pm for the return journey to Hamworthy Sports Club.
The cost of the day is £25 per person which includes entry to both museums. It will be subject to any Coronavirus regulations in force at the time.
