Athelhampton House MG Garden Party and Picnic Sunday 9th August

Almost £2,000 was raised for charity at 1020’s big event of the year, the 1020 Garden Party at Athelhampton House. Close on 150 cars and their occupants took part and made the whole day a huge success. Pride of place outside Athelhampton House was given to members of the Octagon club and there was a fine display from the resurgent Dorset Area Midget and Sprite Club who enjoyed their position on the front lawn. Also joining in were representatives of the local Austin Healey Club with their famous British sports cars. Throughout the day those attending were entertained by the New Forest Dixieland Band and were able to browse the varied trade stands as well as spending money on the raffle, jigsaw, books and Name the Dog stands. The annual duck race on the River Piddle proved as popular as ever and was won by the duck sponsored by Sue Parrott. Prize for the furthest travelled went to former club member Bob Hough in his 1950s Magnette – he was making his annual pilgrimage to Dorset from his home in Nottinghamshire. Car of the Day, as chosen by regional secretary Nigel Knowles, was shared by the Harrison family for their pair of matching race replica Midgets.
