Classic Car display at Sylvan First School

I was approached by a member of staff from the Sylvan First School, in Poole, to organise a display of 1950’s vehicles for the pupils. This year the school celebrates its 60th anniversary and it was thought that a selection of cars from the 50’s would help with the projects that are running alongside the celebrations.

Within 1020 we do not have many 1950’s vehicles so I turned also to Poole Bay Classics and the Austin A30 /35 clubs for assistance. On the day, we mustered a group of 8 cars, the oldest being Pat Lodge’s 1952 MG YB, 3 – A30s, and 1 each of the following: Austin Healey 3000, Nash Metropolitan, Ford 100E. Our 1969 MG B roadster was part of the display and for comparison a teacher parked her 2002 MX5 alongside.

The children really enjoyed our visit, many doing drawings of the cars and others asking questions and making notes. What made their day was sitting in the cars and pretending that they were “drivers” and “navigators”.

I thank the members of Bournemouth & Poole MGOC, Poole Bay Classics and the Austin A30/A35 clubs who volunteered their cars and time for this event. I am sure that they will, in the course of time, be able to remove all of the fingerprints from both the paintwork and the interiors.
