A bumper group of 30 club cars headed out onto the sun drench lanes of Dorset for the annual 1020 Summer Road Run and BBQ.
Starting from Hamworthy Sports Club the mixed convoy comprised everything from a pre-war MGTA and a 50’s TD through to a modern MGZS and an all-electric MG4 plus almost everything in between such as the usual hoard of MGBs, an increasing number of club MGCs, an MGB V8 (Regional Secretary Nigel Knowles), a brace of MGTFs, a lone RV8 and the increasingly rare ZR and ZS.
The 58 mile route, devised with his usual efficiency by Adrian Mullins, took participants on a mystery tour of some of the county’s lesser travelled roads first heading towards Wareham, Bere Regis and Dorchester before venturing into some of the smaller villages such as Millbourne St Andrew, Dewlish and Anstey.
Most crews drove a faultless route although some got temporarily lost and had to extend the journey beyond the two hours most managed to complete the task before finishing at Pamphill Village Hall on the fringes of the Kingston Lacey estate.
Here our regular professional barbecue was nonce again being prepared by Lucy and her team read for everyone to tuck into burgers, sausages and chicken – there was even plenty of seconds to go around. The meal was finished off by ice creams and teas and coffees.
Thanks to Ursula Bonner and Pat Lodge for organising the refreshments which rounded off a perfect Summer’s day out enjoying the delights of Dorset and making the most of our MGs.
