Summer Road Run and BBQ 2023

The 1020 Summer Road Run certainly lived up to its name with clear blue skies all day which added to the enjoyment of a morning driving our classic and modern MGs before indulging in a protein packed barbecue lunch.

Some 25 cars, ranging from a TD, TA and a YB through the ranks of MGB Roadsters and GTs and on to an RV8, ZS, MGF and a selection of MGTFs plus an MG3 assembled at Hamworthy Sports Club before setting off on a 46-mile road run devised by George Parrott.

Unfortunately, due to being away celebrating his birthday, George himself couldn’t be there to hear fulsome praise for his route planning which took in the heart of rural Dorset through villages such as Ashmore, Fontmell Magna, Child Okeford, Shillingstone, Okeford Fitzpaine and Blandford before finishing at Pamphill Village Hall.

The instructions needed careful attention as many discovered when they wrong slotted at a few junctions and missed turnings because of admiring the countryside.

Everyone eventually made it and was able to tuck-in to the barbecue supplied by professional caterers Lucy and Zoe – Lucy revealed that she was that day celebrating being in business for 14 years – many thanks to her for the usual wonderful spread.

The meal was rounded-off with a selection of desserts before people gently made their way home.

Thanks to Pip and Ursula Bonner for administering the event and arranging the desserts and to Pat Lodge for setting up the tea and coffee.

Next time the committee can relax a bit as we will be finishing the Autumn Road Run (Saturday 14 October) with a pub lunch at The Countryman at East Knighton – booking forms available at the August club night.
