Summer Run and BBQ

A testing 31 mile road route with 30 treasure hunt clues to unravel faced the 28 cars and crews which took part in last month’s popular 1020 Summer Road Run.

Setting out from Pamphill Village Hall, after morning refreshment, participants were able to take a leisurely drive in the Dorset countryside heading first towards Shapwick and Blandford before returning via Cranborne and Hinton Martell, all the time seeking the answers to some cryptic clues set by committee member Adrian Mullins that featured, British currency, crustaceans, sailors weight , the Greeks, the Queens and Eastenders actor Bradley Walsh.

There was some keen competition to acquire all the correct answers and at the end two teams: Ian and Sue Hanstead in their RV8 and new members Mike and Julia Short in their TA tied for second place but were just behind the winning combination of Bob and Wendy Richmond-Jones in their not to be missed yellow MG3 who were presented with their prize of a bag of MG goodies by Adrian.

The run concluded with a barbecue at the village hall which was eagerly tucked into by over 50 club members – many going back for seconds before indulging in tea and cakes.

Thanks to Adrian for organising the treasure hunt, and Pip and Ursula Bonner for organising the day, taking the entries, hiring the hall and arranging the excellent barbecue.

The format proved so popular that it is looking likely to become an annual fixture in the club calendar.
