Cowdray House visit

On Sunday 17th June, we joined Chichester MGOC for a Jubilee picnic at Cowdray House. Only 3 cars from 1020 attended but we enjoyed a good day at this very interesting place in good weather. The journey took 90 minutes from Bournemouth to Midhurst taking us through parts of the beautiful South Downs and we arrived early to set up the new club feather flag.

The majority of the property was destroyed by fire in 1793 but the Tudor kitchen remains intact and is still working today. We were greeted by the smells of cooking in the kitchen and were also able to take part in the demonstrations if we wished to.  Alongside the ruins, we were treated to the sight and smells of a Tudor encampment, provided by a group of re-enactors who had displays of clothing, household goods, weapons and armour on show, prior to a group of knights in armour taking part in one to one armed combat.

Our thanks to Andy Harris and the Chichester MGOC team for giving us the opportunity to meet up again at such an interesting venue.
