Club night – Monday 6th July – guest speaker Les Cherrett

Our member Les Cherrett produced a diorama of the Battle of Waterloo which was transported to the club room and then set up for all to see. Les had laid out the diorama to represent a very important state of the battle which finally saw victory for the forces of Wellington. Les hand painted 1500 plus lead soldiers (2000 if you count the horses that the cavalry were mounted on) and mounted all of them in battle formation on a series of boards. These were transported to the club using 6 cars (saloons and estates) and carefully carried into the club room and set up. Les provided a short quiz on the historical background to the battle and some of the personalities concerned and gave a talk on the background to the victory. We thank Les for the evenings entertainment and also the tremendous amount of time and labour he spent producing the diorama.
